What the app collects

Nothing. Word Writer contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising code. It does not ask who you are, and there is no account to create.

Your documents

Documents you write are saved to the location you choose on your own Mac, in standard formats (RTF, RTFD, ODT, plain text, HTML, and — with Premium — DOC and DOCX). Backups the app makes are written next to the document, also on your Mac.

We never see your documents. There is no sync service, no cloud storage of ours, and no upload of any kind. If you store your files in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or a similar service, that is between you and that provider.

When the app uses the network

The app connects to the network for exactly one purpose: in-app purchases. When you buy Premium, or when the app checks whether you have already bought it, it talks to Apple's App Store. That exchange is handled by Apple's StoreKit framework.

We receive no payment details. Apple processes the purchase and tells the app only whether the product was purchased. Apple's handling of that transaction is covered byApple's Privacy Policy.

The App Store itself

Apple provides us with aggregate statistics about the app — how many people downloaded it, in which countries, on which macOS versions, and any ratings and reviews people choose to leave. These are aggregate numbers; they do not identify individual users to us. This is standard for every app on the App Store and is not something the app itself does.

This website

word-writer.app is served by Cloudflare and has no analytics, no cookies and no third-party trackers.

If you use the feedback form, the name, email address and message you type are sent to us by email so we can read and reply. We use them for that and nothing else — no mailing list, no sharing with anyone. The form is rate limited by IP address, which means your IP is briefly held (one hour) purely to stop the form being flooded.

Children

Word Writer is a general-purpose word processor. It is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Since the app collects nothing, the most likely change is a clarification rather than a new kind of collection — but if we ever did add anything, it would be described here before it shipped.
